My name is Juliana Castro. I am a third-year journalism student. I was born and raised in Sacramento, but moved to San Diego for university. I enjoy being active outdoors and especially at the beach. I love animals, nature, learning about new cultures, and traveling, which ties into my aspiration to be a travel writer. My parents were both born and raised in El Salvador, so my Latin culture is a huge part of my identity. On both sides of my family, there were always so many interesting and compelling stories about survival, tragedy, and love; this is what got me interested in pursuing a career in journalism in the first place.
My overall goal for this class is to broaden my skills through the digital world of media. I hope to be able to translate my writing into visual art. I love photography as well, so I hope I can exercise more of that skill in this class. I have always loved to write from a young age. The opportunity to be a vessel for people with silenced or no voice at all is my motivation to be a great journalist.
