I chose to write about the increasing presence of Latina women in journalism because, as a Latina woman, I am starting to see hope in my future. I am starting to see an accurate representation because more women like me are in the newsrooms doing the work. This is an interesting topic for me because, while others may not notice, it is valuable news to a young Latina journalist like myself. An important takeaway is that the world is moving in a more diverse and positive direction.
Growing up in a small town, there were few to no Latinos, and it made the world a lot smaller. Coming to San Diego, where there is a huge community, helped me embrace and connect with people I can relate to. Seeing the media presence of Latinos like me, especially in journalism, made the world feel big and my dreams way more possible.
